When asked what part of the day that newly weds found most stressful, the answer that often comes back is the wedding photos. In each girl’s memory bank are the times they have poured over family wedding albums and many want their perfect wedding shot. If the pressure is mounting and you are nervous about how you will look in the photos, here are tips to ensure you are calm, composed and most of all enjoy capturing those special moments on your wedding day.

Nerves

All brides get them in various degrees, how about you? Do you get anxious just imagining your wedding day? Is now the time to do something about the gurgling monster in your stomach? Luckily there are many techniques that can help from hypnotherapy, emotional freedom technique (EFT/tapping), meditation and acupuncture. Don’t wait until you are overcome with nerves on the morning of your wedding, do the inner work so that you feel chilled now. This sense of calm will see you through the wedding day and help you relax during the photography session.

Smile with Confidence

Your photographer should gently lead you to compile a list of ‘must-have’ shots combined with your preferred style that you love. Now, it’s all about you, your confidence and relaxed attitude on the day together with a winning smile. So, how do you feel about your smile? First, practice smiling in front of the mirror and examine your emotional reaction to your face. Make your smile genuine by thinking happy thoughts or about someone you care about (perhaps the groom!). It’s all about your eyes, smile lines, and authentic glow. Examine your mouth and teeth, is now the time for a trip to the dentist or to investigate teeth whitening or invisible braces? Rest assured you will look beautiful on your wedding day, but essentially it is how YOU feel about your smile that matters.

A bride’s little helpers

Everyone wants to be involved so pick three trusted and responsible guests to liaise with your photographer on the day, which means you don’t have to. Let your photographer know that these guests have been briefed on the photography outline. Ask them to usher guests when big group shots are needed and keep the photographer to timescales.

Enjoy it

Unless you are a model, this may be the one occasion that you will be completely glammed up and the centre of attention. If you can’t enjoy it or this feels scary, read the first point again. Forget dodgy Facebook photos, these will be enduring shots of you looking your best, images to be cherished forever. When you’ve had enough, say so and take five minutes to chill out, and stretch those facial muscles. A good photographer will understand your need for a break.
