With the royal wedding two weeks ago and my own first wedding anniversary now just a month away, I must admit I’m feeling nostalgic , especially about the first look I shared with my husband at the beautiful Gardens of the World botanical site in my hometown, a unique garden setting modeled after styles found in various countries around the globe, including Italy, Japan and England.
I’ll admit that in the beginning, I was a bride adamantly opposed to doing a first look with the groom, not because of any “bad luck†superstitions, but mostly because I simply wanted to experience that “wow†moment at the start of the ceremony, when we would lay eyes on one another for the first time that day.
But as time went on, the thought of sharing a special and private moment beforehand, away from the eyes of all our guests, won out, and I couldn’t be happier that we made the choice we did. By sharing a first look, we got to hug, talk, and take in the moment before capturing some of the best photos of the day pre-ceremony, while my makeup was fresh and before things got crazy. Seeing each other also did wonders for our nerves, since we were both more nervous than we thought we’d be.
Here, a few highlights of the places we traveled, both alone and with our wedding party.
A Spanish mission in California…
A serene pond in Japan…
A lovely rose garden in England…
And a beautiful fountain site nestled in the Mediterranean countryside…
Are you doing a first look before the ceremony? If so, where?
